For those who are interested in calculating the windings for a solenoid coil, I have derived some equations that are based on theory and practical experience. The equations are accurate to +/- 1% up to 35 gauge magnet wire. (+/- 2% up to 45 gauge) The equations also work for half gauge magnet wire. The attached PDF sheet is a MathCAD file, but all of the equations could be replicated on a spreadsheet program if you prefer.
