Re: [femm] Dynamic Animations

Thanks for the tips. They have really helped. If anybody out there that's interested. There is a new type of electric generator that moves the magnetic field lines of magnets as oppose to moving a magnet over wires to create power. The device, I believe, is called Motionless Electromagnetic Generator. This device is a perfect project for some simulations to the FEMM group. If anybody has information on this device, again, I would greatly appreciate it.

Well, Tom Bearden has very recently gotten a patent on this sort of device, for what it's worth. You can check it out by looking up patent 6362718* *on the USPTO server at http://www.uspto.gov/patft/index.html <http://patft.uspto.gov/netacgi/nph-Parser?Sect1=PTO1&Sect2=HITOFF&d=PALL&p=1&u=/netahtml/srchnum.htm&r=1&f=G&l=50&s1=%276362718%27.WKU.&OS=PN/6362718&RS=PN/6362718>

However, you won't get the claimed results if you do a simulation of the device with FEMM. In the model of magnetism used in FEMM, the permanent magnet doesn't/ do/ anything at. In the model of magnetism that FEMM uses (i.e. standard E&M theory that has been used to design quite a number of successful machines), voltage is only induced by a change in flux with respect to time. Since the magnet's flux is DC, it just provides an offset for the AC part of the flux that is created by the windings. That is, FEMM would predict that the MEG is acting like a tranformer, but without any of the unusual properties claimed by the inventors.

Now, I knew this topic was going to come up sooner or later, and I don't want to spark some sort of flame war. Therefore, I'm declaring martial law and pronouncing the MEG officially off-topic. There is already a Yahoo group dedicated to the MEG at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/MEG_builders/ where discussions about the MEG are appropriate.
