Does FEMM have a way of finding peak flux in a particular region?
If not, would it be difficult to add a peak_detect (accessible from lua,
natch) function that allows you to ask for the peak absolute value of a
particular quantity (E, B, H, A, J, etc) in a given volume as defined
by a
region tag?

FEMM currently doesn't have a built-in way of doing this. It wouldn't
be that difficult to add this functionality. However, the reason that
I didn't design this in is because the peak values are often not very
meaningful. Around corners in permeable material, the solution can be
nearly singular--the exact peak value has a strong dependence on local
mesh density.
