I'm used to use SI units (kg, m, sec).

If you use a simplified model (homogenous magnetic field, neglect 
magnetic resistance of iron, no flux leakage, ...) you can calculate 
force for simple electromagnet :
F=(1/2)*B^2*S/mi0

F (force on a pole) in Newtons, B (flux density in air gap) in 
Teslas, S (cross section area of pole) in sq.meters, mi0 (relative 
permitivity)=4*PI*10E-7 Hm-1

For more accurate result you should make a model in FEMM and 
calculate it.
